Album review - Brisbane's Child April 2007 Queensland based duo Lucy Lastic and Simon have created the kind of CD that will polarise kids and their parents. Parents might find this CD crass, vulgar, uneducational or just plain silly. Or they might secretly find it quite funny and maybe even cute in a gross kind of way. Kids on the other hand will almost unanimously find it hilarious, gross and very cool. Simon and Lucy sing in a rockabilly/country style, and their songs, with such titles as 'What Do They Do (with all the poo from the animals at the zoo) and Undies On The Inside - about undignified superhero behaviour - might just serve to answer all those questions that lurk not too far back in the minds of young kids. Icky sound effects are liberally splattered throughout the album. Farts, nose picking, throwing up...its all here. The Funny Green Smelly Things has no pretensions to the moral high ground. But Lucy and Simon are vibrant, competent musicians and singers and have a lot of fun cracking jokes for the under-10 crowd. |
